Ji Yeon’s grandmother is setting the table for dinner. She places stainless steel chopsticks perfectly beside black ceramic plates. Ji Yeon helps by placing glasses on the table next to the plates.
Ji Yeon says “halmoni?”
“Yes, my little flower” she replies in Korean.
“what’s wrong with Bpo Bpo?”
The grandmother looks over to the loungeroom and sees their dog, lying on a mat in front of the couch, with a sad look on it’s face.
The grandmother smiles and says:
“Perhaps she misses your mummy and daddy just as much as you do”
Ji Yeon stands still and takes a moment to think about her parents.
Cassidy comes home from work, wearing a black dress and high heels.
She walks in the door, takes off her shoes and rubs her feet.
A baby sitter greets her at the door.
Cassidy asks: “Hello Georgina, where’s my girl?”
“She’s in the loungeroom, watching TV.” The baby-sitter replies.
Cassidy: “Thanks for taking coming in on such short notice, I had to work late to close off a deal.”
Georgina: “That’s no problem, she’s an angel to look after”
Cassidy: “That’s my gal!” she smiles.
“Clementine!” Cassidy yells.
“In here mommy” she replies.
Cassidy walks into the lounge room.
“What could be so interesting on T.V that you don’t come running to mummy, hmmm?” she asks rhetorically, assuming she is watching some kids show.
Cassidy turns the corner to go into the lounge-room and looks at what Clementine is watching. Then she stops suddenly.
Clementine is watching a special news report on TV, Cassidy looks dumb struck.
The T.V report is about the “Oceanic Heros”.
Clementine turns away from the TV to look at her mum and asks “Mummy?…What’s wrong?”
Cassidy has watery eyes and a hand over her mouth.
Cassidy simply says : “that’s your daddy”.
As the TV shows a close up of Sawyer.
Ji Yeon stands on a step stool to help her grandmother cooking soup.
Suddenly, Bpo Bpo jumps up and runs to the door.
The dog starts scratching at the door and is excited.
Ji Yeon looks surprised and tries to restrain the dog.
A minute or two later, the door bell rings.
The grandmother goes to open the door, she opens the door and for a minute she looks shocked.
“Hello”, a tall, dark masculine figure says… “I’m Ji Yeon’s English teacher”
“Oh, yes, of course.” The grandmother nervously replies, “Won’t you come in” she says in English.
The dark figure walks through the door and Bpo Bpo jumps up to the man’s side.
“Bpo Bpo! Sit!” the grandmother yells in Korean.
“Oh, that’s ok…” and the man replies in English, leaning down to greet the dog.
“I used to have a dog myself” and the man’s face is seen, being licked by the dog, it is Walt.
Inside a funeral parlor, there is a ceremony, but no coffin. On a table are some photos of Charles Widmore, there are tasteful flowers arranged here and there and a bottle of MacCutcheon whisky, near the corner of the table.
There are about 20 people dressed in black, a few are walking to the front of the parlor and others are seated. The room is a small room with mellow lighting and soft music playing.
Seated in the front row is Penny and Charlie. Penny is crying when someone in a black dress with a black veil puts her hand on Penny’s shoulder.
The woman says:
“You know he died a hero?”
Penny replies: “What? What, do you mean?”
The woman concludes: “Obviously you haven’t been watching the news”
Penny looks at the woman, with confusion. “Umm, I’m sorry, but do I know you?”
The woman just walks away towards the exit, then, just before she steps outside, she pauses for a minute, a man in a black suit stops in front of her, they both look at each other for a brief moment, then the woman walks out as the man walks in.
The man in the suit is Desmond. He looks for Penny, Penny cries into a tissue, she smiles and tries to restrain her excitement.
Desmond, now with a big grin on his face, kneels down in front of Charlie and Charlie’s eyes open wide with excitement.
“Daddy!” he yells and people in the room give them a strange look, but Desmond, Charlie and Penny don’t care. They all embrace in tears of joy and sorrow.
